Influence of citizens journalism in promoting online news in Warri, Delta state

Abstract
The study examined the influence of citizens' journalism in promoting online news with a specific focus on the residents of Warri in Delta State. Online news has come of age while citizen journalism is an emerged form of journalism that was facilitated by the emergence of ICT especially smartphones, the internet, and blogs. The study was anchored on the Technological Determinism and Source Credibility Theories. Survey as a quantitative research method was adopted, the data collection instrument for this was questionnaires in which hundred (120) copies of questionnaires were distributed to the respondents that were purposively drawn within Warri. Findings showed that many of the respondents are practicing online journalism, while, the majority of them have access to news materials online on a daily basis.  Also, a larger percentage of the respondents know how to write, post or share blog content online, in addition to this, the Information Nigeria news blog and the blueprint blog attracted more respondents to their credit.  People spend a reasonable amount of time online reading news and the core reason why people partake in online journalism is because news materials online can be transferred easily. It was therefore recommended that media outfits should not see citizen journalists as a threat but a tool they can employ to stay afloat in the business of news....
