Pitching yourself for a job position is the way you introduce yourself to your employees or human resource managers. It should be short, informative and straight to the point. If you do it right, 30 seconds is enough time to hire you.
Here are 7 ways you can pitch yourself for a job position
1. YOUR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
From the way you are dressed to your smile to your firm handshake, to the way you maintain eye contact, these are the first things your potential employers will notice about you. You do not want to give them the wrong first impression.
2. ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM
Responding to questions logically and tactfully shows passion and enthusiasm for the job. It also shows you have done your homework and are prepared to take on the job headlong. Asking questions of your own if there are things you also want to shows that you are willing to learn new things and it makes the interview active rather than passive.
3. NUMERACY
Using numbers when pitching yourself to your potential employers gives credibility to the things you say. It breathes life into the conversation. For example, you could say something like; “… in the past 2 years I have volunteered for over 20 NGOs and we provided free cancer screening and treatments to more than 100 women living with breast cancer in rural areas”.
Bringing in metrics or numbers will draw their attention to you and it is very helpful.
4. BE FLEXIBLE
You must have prepared for and rehearsed before the interview but it would be a mistake to go there and start sounding like a robot or machine. Know when to pause and breathe and not sound like you are reciting what you crammed.
5. GO STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
Avoid beating about the bush if you can help it. Accuracy and precision are key. The listener’s attention span may be short so avoid rambling.
6. ORGANIZATION
Organize your resume or your LinkedIn profile so that people will understand the links that connect your experiences. Do not write your resume like a shopping list and expect them to understand and give you a chance.
7. BE CREATIVE
This shows you are willing to go above and beyond and it sets you apart from the crowd. From the research, you must have done you might notice some shortcomings or pitfalls of the company. If during the interview you sound like you already have the job and right there start bringing creative ways to solve those problems, you would have succeeded in creating an impression that resonates with your interviewers and it gives them something to think about after the interview is over.
Goodluck!
