The effect of 90-90 mobility exercise and intake of vitamin D on hypertension, HbA1 levels and sleep quality in people with type 2 diabetes

Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion, leading to hyperglycemia. The global prevalence of T2DM has been increasing rapidly, with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimating that 537 million adults worldwide will be living with diabetes by 2025 (IDF, 2022). In addition to its impact on quality of life, T2DM is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, primarily due to cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and other complications. People with T2DM often experience comorbidities such as hypertension, which affects approximately 70% of individuals with T2DM (ADA, 2022). Hypertension can exacerbate diabetes-related complications, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and retinopathy. Moreover, individuals with T2DM often experience poor sleep quality, which can further worsen glycemic control and overall health outcomes. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of developing T2DM, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease (Mitri et al., 2011). Furthermore, research suggests that vitamin D supplementation may have beneficial effects on glycemic control, blood pressure, and cardiovascular risk factors in individuals with T2DM (George et al., 2012). Regular physical activity is a crucial component of T2DM management, as it improves insulin sensitivity, glycemic control, and cardiovascular health. The 90-90 mobility exercise, which involves 90 seconds of aerobic exercise followed by 90 seconds of resistance training, has been shown to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and functional capacity in older adults (Bocalini et al., 2016). Despite the importance of physical activity and vitamin D supplementation in T2DM management, there is a need for further research investigating the combined effects of these interventions on hypertension, glycemic control, and sleep quality in individuals with T2DM. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of the 90-90 mobility exercise and vitamin D supplementation on hypertension, HbA1c levels, and sleep quality in people with T2DM. 08061672476
