The crime of kidnapping is a kind of criminal violence which has infringed the citizens'' fundamental rights and has become a felonious crime which has led to the murder of unfortunate victims. Kidnapping has been taken as a business which has become an organized process to destroy some members of the society. This study examines the conceptual meanings of kidnapping and the impact on development in our society. Three hypotheses were developed to guide the study. Simple random sampling method was used to draw 180 respondents. Survey and descriptive methods were used to determine the data analysis. The result of the analysis shown that kidnapping has a significant impact on the victims and their immediate families. Besides, kidnapping has become a factor adversely affecting the development of economic activities in Imo state.
