The study investigated the performance of the contractors selected using the lowest evaluated bids by the use of factors that were identified in the literature. It further identified factors that have strong impact on the performance of contractors. The study also investigated the extent of usage of public procurement in the selection of contractors for the execution of government projects. Out of 75 questionnaires distributed, 50 were retrieved. Fourteen of these returns were found to be poorly completed and were therefore discarded. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and ranking. Responses received revealed that six out of the ten factors identified have a strong influence on the performance of contractors these factors are the rate of insurance of warning letters rate of request to attend to warranty and compliance with instructions.
