Abstract
This research work examined the impact of ICT on the performance of secretaries in public tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. The purpose of this study was to find out how much ICT competencies were possessed by secretaries in public tertiary institutions in Ekiti State and to determine how good secretaries working in public tertiary institutions in Ekiti State are in the use of computers to type correspondence and reports. The population of the study consisted of secretaries in some selected public institutions in Ekiti State, where 80 were selected and sampled for the study using simple random techniques. The researcher made use of questionnaire as an instrument for gathering data and simple percentage frequency was used to analyse the data gathered. Findings revealed that secretaries in public tertiary institutions possessed word processing skills, and were able to print documents on computer. They were also capable of retrieving documents saved in external or back-up drives at a given time. It was also found that information technology really saved time secretaries while they were performing their job, as the use of computer sped up office work. Based on the findings, the study concluded that the use of information technology reduced work load of secretaries in public tertiary institutions and the use of information technology enabled them to keep adequate records in public institutions. The study recommended that information technology should be given a significant place in any establishment whether private or public in order to have smooth office operation and efficiency, and employers should endeavor to provide ICT gadgets for efficiency, accuracy and maximum productivity of their secretaries and other staff....
