This was carried out using two different compositions. The first being the trial composition contain 2000g of Unwana clay each batch and different percentage of the oxides. The second composition contains 1000g of Unwana Clay, 100g of quarz and different percentage of the oxides. The bricks samples were fired at 10000c and the following results obtained. In the first composition average% total shrinkage are standard sample (13%) sample A (15.2%) Sample B (14.3%) Sample C (15.0%). Average% porosity are Standard sample (16%) sample A (6%) sample B (6%) sample C (4.3%). In the second composition, average% drying shrinkage are standard sample (11%) sample A (8.3%) sample B (9%) sample C (6%).% Porosity are standard sample (16%) sample A (19%) sample B(17%)sample C(17%). In the first composition, there are no colour change after the firing process of the brick samples while in the second composition, there are colour changes after the firing process. Cobalt oxide changed the colour of the bricks to lilac and chromium oxide changed the colour of the bricks to gray.
