Abstract
Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that in certain situations is potentially reversible if treated early (James, 2015). Cardiopulmonary resuscitation can be defined as an emergency treatment of a victim of cardiac or respiratory arrest through emergency cardiac care (Mosby, 2009). Three objectives were formulated by the researcher to guide the study. They include: determine the knowledge of cardiopulmonary arrest among nurses in Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku, To determine the knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among nurses in Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku, To determine the practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among nurses in Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku. The finding from this study if published will reveal the level of knowledge of cardiopulmonary arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and also the practices of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among the nurses thereby helping the researcher to channel health education accordingly. The research design used in carrying out this study was a descriptive design. A sample size of 100 nurses was used. Balloting without replacement was used to select the subject of study after they were divided into 12 mutually exclusive strata based on their wards. Self-developed questionnaire with 27 structured questions was used as an instrument for data collection. The data collected were analyzed with the aid of a computer statistical package. Using descriptive statistics like frequencies and percentages and presented using frequency distribution tables. The finding revealed that the respondents have a high level of knowledge of cardiopulmonary arrest 93(93%), excellent knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation 82(82%) and poor practice 40(40%) of cardiopulmonary resuscitation....
