Abstract
This research work is aimed at assessing the level of people's awareness of HIV/AIDS, and its prevention strategy and to determine the attitude and perception of secondary school students in Offa Local Government in the prevention of the occurrence of the disease. The researcher used structured questionnaires to obtain the required data. Eighty (80) questionnaires were administered on selected respondents using random sampling techniques out of which fifty were successfully returned, while thirty were not returned. The option of the respondents from the analysis of the returned questionnaire indicates that 40% of the students believed that the suitable and acceptable way of campaigning among youths are radio programs, use of billboards, bulletins, individual and public campaigns rallies, use of jesses, posters and magazines. Over 20% of the respondents agreed that abstinence, faithfulness, proper screening of blood, and proper sterilization of sharp objects reduce the occurrence of HIV/AIDS in youths and society at large. It is therefore recommended that the government should ban the showing of phonographic films by the mass media, religious leaders and society should accept moral instructions and sex education to be compulsory subjects in their wards, school’s curriculum and international organizations should actively supervise measures put in place to combat HIV/AIDS.  ...
