Abstract
The study focuses on insurgency, armed banditry and corruption in Nigeria: the bane of socio-economic underdevelopment using Kogi State as case study. The objectives of this project are:  to examine the major factors behind emerging security threats in Kogi State, to assess the causes and effects of corruption in Kogi State, to determine the various types and levels of criminality in Kogi State and to assess the implications of Nigeria’s socio-economic development and the way forward.   The methodology adopted in gathering data was descriptive method, both the primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 3,278,487, a sample size of 528 respondents was selected using simple random technique. Findings revealed insurgency, armed banditry and corruption are a threat to socio-economic development, and reduce the overall wealth in a country. Causes serious development challenges in the political sphere and it undermines democracy and good governance.  In view of the findings, it was recommended that the Nigerian government should strategize to create meaningful employment for the youths encapsulated in programmes that aim at addressing the endemic poverty in the country. Also, accountability measures should be put in place in order to hold people responsible for their actions or inaction and finally convicts of insecurity should be summarily dealt with according to the statutes on terrorism so as to serve as deterrence to prospective terrorists....
