Abstract
This study focuses on vocational education and poverty reduction: a tool for sustainable community development in Kogi State using Kogi State Polytechnic as the case study. The methodology adopted in gathering data was descriptive method, both the primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 1206, a sample size of 300 respondents was selected using simple random technique. Findings revealed that vocational education contributes to capital skills that enhance self-reliance it also helps to prepare young people for the world of work and it enhance employment, improves the quality of life and hinders poverty in the state. Furthermore, the challenges of vocational education includes: inadequate fund, inadequate facilities and others.  In view of the findings, it was recommended that Government should ensure adequate and timely funding of the programme under vocational education. A flexible learning environment and framework should be provided for the would-be beneficiaries. ...
