Street teenage youth activities on security challenges in Minna metropolis, Niger state

Abstract
This study investigated the prevalent street activities engaged in by teenage youth in Minna Metropolis, the security challenges associated with these activities and factors contributing to the involvement of teenage youth in street activities in Minna Metropolis, Niger State, Nigeria. The study employed a quantitative research design and data were collected from 100 street teenage youth using a structured questionnaire. The findings showed that the majority of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that street teenage youth in Minna Metropolis are involved in various activities such as loitering, drug trafficking, graffiti and vandalism, truancy and begging. These activities pose a significant security risk to the community, as they are associated with increased crime rates, violence, and a sense of disorder. The study also found that a number of factors contribute to the involvement of teenage youth in street activities, including socioeconomic disadvantage, lack of access to education, peer pressure, lack of positive role models, family instability, and substance abuse. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made: strengthen community engagement programs and recreational activities for teenagers, implement educational and skill-building initiatives, collaborate with local authorities and NGOs, enhance law enforcement efforts, promote awareness campaigns, and develop vocational training programs....
