Abstract
A medical record is the foundation block of healthcare delivery and its primary aim is to document the course of a patient’s healthcare and provide a medium of communication among healthcare professionals for current and future use. Medical record care traces it not back to the 1920s when healthcare professionals realized that documenting patient care benefited both providers and patients. The aim of this study is to find out the importance of medical records as they affect the quality of care in health care delivery. The research is descriptive in nature and the questionnaire is the major instrument for data collection in this work, which was self the practice of medical records ensures quality care in healthcare delivery -administered to 269 healthcare providers in  Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi. The analysis of the collected data was done with descriptive statistical tools (frequency and percentages) and the hypothesis was tested using chi-square. The result of the finding revealed that 96.6% of the respondents agreed the on, the practice of medical records ensures quality of care in healthcare delivery seen in Table 4.8, 100% of the respondents agreed on the importance of medical records seen in Table 4.6. The delivery of health care services must be patient-focused. Patient satisfaction takes into account both medical and non-medical factors. Upgradation and continuing education for all caregivers is essential in order to achieve new goals in healthcare delivery mechanisms.
