EMRs aim to address the limitations of paper records and improve healthcare quality. However, EMR adoption costs are not always borne by those benefitting from their use. A descriptive qualitative study was conducted to examine EMR knowledge and use among healthcare professionals as determinants of teamwork. Fifty-seven doctors, nurses, health records officers, pharmacists, and lab scientists who handle EMRs at a teaching hospital completed a questionnaire. Reliability was established (r1.0). Frequency, percentage counts, and chi-square tests analyzed data. Participants had poor EMR understanding, though 90% used EMRs for patient information, billing, documentation, medication administration, lab records, and data analysis. EMRs were favored over paper for accessibility, time-savings, and easy data retrieval. EMR training should equip staff in duties.
