This study endeavors to delve into the intricacies of the effectiveness of drainage networks in managing flood occurrences in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. The primary objective of this research is to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of the drainage network in combating floods within the city of Owerri. The methodological approach involves the collection of data from various communities in the Owerri metropolis. The study result shows that the quality of the drainage network within the study area is between fair and poor. Furthermore, the study identified that the effect of the flood is more on Movement obstruction, House distortion, Landslide/erosion, Infrastructural collapse. The hypothesis testing using chi-square shows that there is a significant association between flood monthly occurrence and the effect of flooding in Owerri metropolis.
