Abstract
The study set out to study Governance and Mediation in Tiv- Jukun Conflict in Taraba State, the study is an assessment of the perception of people with regard to ethnic conflict and governance role in mediation in Taraba State with specific reference to the Wukari local government area. This study was informed by the frequent ethnic conflicts which occurred and re-occurred especially the Tiv/Jukun 1954, 1964, 1990 and 1992, the Hausa/Jukun 1987, 1998, 1999, and the Tiv/Jukun 2001 clashes in the area. This then means that it was the interest of the elite in the study areas that led to the escalation and de-escalation of the conflicts. Data for the research work were collected from archives and libraries like books, articles, journals, newspapers, unpublished research work as well as personal interviews. The study recommends the following government should handle land and chieftaincy matters with care for the purpose not compatible with the interest of the rightful owners. This will reduce conflicts of interest between the government and the governed. Government should implement the report of the various commissions of inquiries into the communal conflicts in the areas. This will show government commitment and seriousness in its fight against conflicts and clashes. ...
