This study aims to develop a framework for knowledge management in a departmental library in a university so as to track the number of books and projects on shelves, those borrowed and yet to be returned at time intervals. This project gives in the first part the methodology of developing a framework of software application named“Library System” using the programming languages of JAVAFX and MySQL. In the second part, this project applies this methodology to the departmental library taken as a case study. This consists of evaluating the existing knowledge management practice by identifying, creating, capturing, sharing, and utilizing the database of books and projects available in the library. The result of this project revealed the effective application of knowledge sharing and utilization in which books and projects are tracked upon retrieval and return, also updated in a database for easy search and addition of new books. More so this application, ensures that the details of the students are entered and prompts the user on when due books are to be returned. From the investigations on this study, it can be concluded that the new knowledge management definitely improves the efficiency and effective use of the library and saves future loss of materials and projects stored in the library. Hence reducing extra purchase cost, aids efficient student clearance and gives a structured and explicit amount of books available. Keywords: knowledge, knowledge management, academic library.
