Abstract
This study assessed motivation and its impact on the job performance of secretaries in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. This study adopted a survey approach research design in order to assess how motivation influences employee performance. This study used both probability sampling technique which was the Cluster sampling technique, and non-probability sampling which was purposive sampling, to get a sample size of 90 respondents. The questionnaires which comprised both close-ended and open-ended questions were used in data collection. The study found that all variables had a positive influence on employee performance in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. The study recommended that there was a need for the management to involve all employees at all levels in setting well and clear goals for the organization, to make survey research to understand employee’s perception towards the services of Kogi State Polytechnic secretaries, and to review the salary scheme, bonuses and other entitlement for the employees in order to make sure the employees satisfied and motivated in their posts, thus the required performance will be achieved. Also, there was a need for the government to make sure there is a good and comfortable work environment for employees and to have a special section or department, which deals with internal research and development of the organization....
