Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the importance of record management in an organization, a case study of the Ministry of Information, Lokoja. The descriptive survey design was used for the study because it focuses on people, the vital facts of people and their beliefs, options attitudes motivations and behavior. Every office in today’s business world, be it government, industry, or other human endeavors, requires facts and accurate information for quick decision-making and record management. Record management is responsible for the efficient and systematic control of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records, including processes for capturing and maintaining evidence of information and business activities and transactions in the form of records. Findings reveal that an effective record management system plays an important role in the organization as it improves efficiency and productivity on the organization. The success or failure and smooth running of any business organization are determined by their effective ways of keeping records. It therefore recommended that training and awareness programs should be implemented to inform employees about the risks associated with poor records management, such as lost or misplaced records, non-compliance, and reputational damage, and also government should design strategies to provide records management system support to organization for both business transactions and records....
