The study attempts to ascertain how tax assessment can be used in resolving problems of tax evasion in Taraba state, reviewing in detail, the operation of tax assessment in Taraba state to establish their success otherwise in generating revenue for the Taraba state government. To achieve these specified objectives, the researcher examines extant literature on the aforementioned issues. The researcher used both the primary and secondary data. The primary data involve the use of questionnaires and personal interviews while the secondary data are obtained from existing literature like textbooks, journals, e.t.c. while ninety (90) questionnaires were administered, out of which all were retrieved. And used the statistical tools of simple percentage and the table method of analysis to estimate the effectiveness of tax assessment in Taraba state. Results reveal that most respondents in Taraba state do not like paying taxes because government officials misappropriate funds or use the collected taxes for private objectives. With that, the researcher concluded that Nigeria must train special tax judges and establish a special tax tribunal.
