Abstract
This study investigates the audience perception of caricature and photo-realistic audio-visual aids in the pre-school educational television program"Sesame Street." The research explores the effectiveness of these visual aids in enhancing learning among pre-school children in Minna, Niger State. The literature review highlights the critical role of visual aids in educational television, emphasizing the balance between caricatures and photo-realistic visuals. Theoretical frameworks, including Cognitive Load Theory and Visual Theory, provide insights into how children process and learn from visual information. The study employs a survey design, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from 400 parents of pre-school children. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane's formula, with simple random and purposive sampling techniques applied. Data analysis revealed high awareness (92%) and engagement (88%) with these audio-visual aids. A significant majority (93%) of parents perceived enhanced learning ability in their children, with 89% reporting a high effect on learning. The study found strong support (94%) for school adoption of these audio-visual aids and overwhelming backing (97%) for continued production of"Sesame Street" with these aids. The research concludes that caricature and photo-realistic audio-visual aids in"Sesame Street" are highly effective tools for pre-school education, significantly enhancing children's engagement and learning ability. Recommendations include incorporating these aids into pre-school curricula, continued investment in their development, and further research into their long-term impact on children's cognitive development....
