PUD significantly impacted morbidity and mortality until the late 20th century when its incidence notably decreased. The study aimed to assess the prevalence, perceived efficacy, and safety of traditional medicinal plants used for the management of peptic ulcers among residents of Zaria, Kaduna State. Data were gathered from the fieldwork using the questionnaire as the primary research instrument and interviews as a secondary instrument. A total of Four hundred 400 copies of the questionnaire were analyzed The study revealed that 73% of the respondents used medicinal plants in order to treat peptic ulcers. Similarly, 47% of the respondents obtained medicinal plants from local markets. Also, 68% of respondents found the medicinal plants effective. Additionally, some individuals (36%) experience side effects like nausea, diarrhea, or worsened symptoms due to inappropriate use of herbal medicine. Medicinal plants continue to play a significant role in peptic ulcer management among residents of Zaria, Kaduna State. While they offer potential benefits, ensuring their safety and efficacy requires a combination of traditional knowledge and scientific research.
