Abstract
This study examines the effects of absenteeism on students' academic performance in junior secondary schools. Absenteeism, defined as the habitual or frequent absence from school without valid reasons, is a critical issue that impacts student learning and achievement. The research aims to explore how missing school days disrupts students' ability to grasp essential concepts, participate in classroom activities, and engage in assessments. A mixed-method approach was employed, incorporating both quantitative surveys to measure academic performance and qualitative interviews to gather insights from teachers, parents, and students. The findings reveal that absenteeism leads to lower grades, poor class participation, and a lack of consistent academic progress. The study also identifies factors such as family issues, health problems, and lack of motivation as contributing to student absenteeism. Based on these findings, the study suggests strategies for improving attendance, including better communication between school and home, counseling support, and creating a more engaging learning environment. This research underscores the need for schools to address absenteeism as a means to improve academic outcomes for students....
