Abstract
This study investigated the prevalence of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) among women of childbearing age in Akaajime Community, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used, involving a sample of 100 women aged 15–49 years. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that 74% of the respondents were aware of PID, and a significant number reported symptoms such as lower abdominal pain (70%), abnormal vaginal discharge (65%), and painful intercourse (55%). However, only 42% had been formally diagnosed by a healthcare provider. While 46% sought care at health centers, 20% relied on traditional healers, and 10% did not seek treatment at all. The study concluded that PID remains prevalent due to moderate awareness levels, poor health-seeking behavior, and cultural influences. It recommends health education campaigns, improved access to reproductive healthcare, and further research to address this public health concern....
