A true sampling technique was adopted. All bone scintigraphy produced from January 2014 to January 2016 was used in the nuclear medicine center of University College Hospital. Data was collected and recorded using a well-developed capture sheet that contains a column for gender, age, indication and metastasis. The result of the study showed that the gender distribution of a total of 493, 273(55.8%) were male patients and 218 (44.2%) were female patients. Indications for bone scintigraphy showed prostate cancer having the highest number of patients referred for bone scan with a total of 246(49.9%),right breast cancer having a total of 101(20.5%), left breast cancer having a total of 70(14.2%), cervical cancer having a total of 8(1.6%), colon cancer having a total of 4(0.8%), others having a total of 64(13%). The result showed the percentage of patients with metastasis as 43.2%(n213), those without metastasis as 36.7%(n181) and others with suspicious of metastasis as 20.1%(n99). Pattern of bone scintigraphy findings showed that the older age group is affected the most, this might be due to lack of cancer screening which leads to late detection on presenting to the hospital. . Prostate cancer is most prevalent among the male gender and it metastasize to almost half of the patient present with prostate cancer and for the female gender right breast cancer is most prevalent and it metastasizes to more than half of the patient present with right breast cancer. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Medical Radiography project topics and materials you might be interested in»Knowledge and practice of justification of medical exposure among medical and dental practitioners in teaching hospitals within Kano metropolis»Pattern of bone scintigraphy findings in a tertiary hospital in Nigeria»Knowledge and awareness of radiation exposure and safety practice among patients undergoing medical imaging General Hospital Gusau»Evaluation of the prevalence of sesamoid bone in lower extremity radiographs (case study of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Universty Teaching Hospital Bauchi, Bauchi state)»The relevance of biomedical engineers on computer tomography (CT) in intensive care unit (ICU) Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Hospital»New design of a radiology request-referral form (case study of Specialist Hospital Bauchi, Bauchi state)
