Abstract
This research work examined staff motivation as a tool for higher productivity in the public service, a case study of Kogi State Ministry of education, Lokoja. However, the extent to which motivation achieves the desired result revolves around many variables. How these variables are identified in relation to the appropriate situation or employees will go a long way to reflect effective implementation. This way, efforts and resources will not be dissipated in the wrong direction. This research work focuses on how to appraise and identify the necessary areas that call for the application of the right motivational tools as well as the effective implementation at the appropriate time. The methods used in the collection of data include primary and secondary sources. In analyzing the data collected, the researcher used the tabular and percentage method. The findings revealed that some employees are lazy and do not want to work unless pressure is mounted on them. The management should use motivational tools to motivate the employees as this will go a long way in improving the performance of the employees and that staff motivation will bring effectiveness among the staff in the public service. At the end of the research, it was recommended that the salary of workers should be increased so that it would be with the amount of energy and time put into the work and enable the staff to successfully cater for their families. Also, facilities such as canteen, sport complex, etc can help the workers ease tension whenever the need arises with the aid of these facilities....
