The broad objective of this study is to empirically examine the determinants of savings and investment in Nigeria. The specific objectives, which this study intends to pursue, are to ascertain the determinant of savings in the Nigerian economy and to know how savings and investment help to improve the Nigerian economy. As could be observed from the findings in this research that when the interest rate is high, the level of savings will rise because depositors will profit, as he will have more returns on his deposits. In the same view, if the interest rate falls, the level of savings will drop, as people will not be motivated to save. On the contrary, if the level of interest rate rises, the level of investment falls because the cost of acquiring funds becomes expensive and when the level of interest drops, the level of investment rises as the cost of acquiring funds for investment purposes is reduced. Also, it was observed that when savings increases the level of investment increases because more funds will be available in the hands of investors to fund capital projects in the economy. Based on the hypotheses tested in this research, the following were revealed: Interest rates have a positive significant impact on Aggregate savings in Nigeria Interest rates have a negative significant impact on Aggregate investment in Nigeria Aggregate savings have a positive significant impact on Aggregate investment in Nigeria. Recommendations were made based on these findings. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Economics project topics and materials you might be interested in»The impact of industrialization on Nigeria's economic development»The impact of minimum wage fluctuation on growth of Nigerian economy»Population growth and economic development in Nigeria (1981-2011)»The impact of population growth on the Nigerian economy (1980-2010)»The impact of petroleum subsidy on the consumption of petroleum products in Nigeria»The impact of small and medium scale industries on the economic growth of Nigeria (1986 – 2010)»The impact of industrial output on the economy of Nigeria (1980-2010)»The growth of Nigerian economy and unemployment (1980-2010)»Impact of government expenditure on Nigerian economic growth (1981 – 2010)»The effect of external debt on economic growth of Nigeria»Poverty and the Nigerian economy»An assessment on the impact of industrialization on economic growth in Nigeria»The impact of external debt on Nigeria economy (1985-2011)»Inequality and taxation in Nigeria (1980-2010)»The impact of bank lending on the growth of small and medium business in Osun State
