Abstract
This research work was designed to study the role of small scale enterprises in the socio-economic development of rural areas. Investment opportunities in Nigeria have been lopsided with more foreign participation pursuing economic developments, there is the problem of synchronizing, small scales enterprises concerned have suffered a great deal. The main objective of this research work is to find out the problems encountered in the development of small scale enterprises in the local government area. The method used in collecting data was mainly primary and secondary techniques. A stratified random sampling was adopted to guarantee equal and fair representation to all the segments of the population. A sample of three hundred and fifty respondents consisted of traders, civil servants, hotelier, saw millers and politicians were drawn. It is on the basis of the responses from these selected members of the population that the judgment of the researcher would be based Based on the data presented and analyzed, it was discovered that that generally, small scale enterprises are characterized by  low level of efficiency and that the reason for that is attributed to the non-availability of loans to them and that, they are been faced with lots of challenges which includes the immediate environment. It was recommended that the Federal state and local government should within their purview provide or promote the activities of small scale enterprises by creating a favorable environment....
