Rural infrastructural development as a solution to rural-urban migration - a case study of Lokoja local government area of Kogi state

Abstract
This research work was designed to appraise rural infrastructural development as a solution to rural-urban migration. Some countries in West Africa with particular reference to Nigeria have given priority to their urban population as they leave the rural population frustrated in such areas due to lack of provision of social amenities, recreational centers or facilities, higher education, and employment opportunities among others. This has led to the problem of rural migration, which this research is designed to address. The main objective of this research work is to throw more light on the rural infrastructural development as a solution to rural-urban migration. The method used in collecting data was mainly primary and secondary techniques and questionnaires were administered to a population size comprised of the entire workers of the local council estimated to be about eight hundred and seventy-six (876). The questionnaires were administered to a sample size of a hundred and twenty (120). Findings revealed that rural-urban migration has a negative impact on both the dependent and the receiving regions. Amongst other solutions recommended, it was suggested that the government should try to establish higher institutions of learning in rural areas. This will discourage rural-urban migration in the quest for higher education, which can now be obtained in rural areas....
