Abstract
This study examines the impact of privatizing public enterprises and its implication on the Nigerian economy. It seeks to investigate the reason for privatizing public enterprises in the country in which the bureau for public enterprises is chosen as the case study of the study. In conducting the research primary and secondary sources of data collection were used to gather facts relating to the study. In fact, public enterprises are established by the government in order to provide social goods and services for the member of the public at reasonable cost or prices and not with a profit motive. But the poor performance and the inability of public enterprises to spur the expected growth in the economy, informs the issue of privatization in Nigeria. This is because privatization is therefore seen as a means of restructuring the economy. But its implementation has been very poor and not satisfactory in Nigeria. Despite this, it is obvious here in this study that privatization will have a positive impact on the nation’s economy if it is well implemented.
