Abstract
Corruption in Nigeria is a malignant tumor that feeds on its host to death, indeed corruption is a frightening problem in Nigeria, which has pervaded all segments of the national development and has overwhelmed all levels and branches of government. In light of the above, the Olusegun Obasanjo administration established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by a legislative act on December 13, 2002, to combat the phenomenon (corruption). The researcher in this project will be focusing on an appraisal of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the war against corruption with emphasis on 2002-2008. The researcher will use secondary data sourced from related literature, to analyze the spread of corruption in Nigeria, This will enable him to know how the economic and financial crimes commission has performed and contributed towards combating the cankerworm (corruption). He will also point to the fact that politicians view public office as an array of a prebend, that is appropriation which provides access to the state treasury. The researcher has adopted prebendalism as its theoretical framework, which was propounded by Richard Joseph (1987)....
