Abstract
Field and Laboratory studies were conducted in 2019 to evaluate the effect of farming activities on the occurrence and diversity of aquatic weeds in a seasonal pond in Makurdi. Soil samples were taken at the bed of the pond at a depth of 0-5cm, the samples were air-dried, crushed and sieved to pass through a 2mm sieve for laboratory analysis. The sampling points were taken in the fish pond with the following coordinates shown in Table 1. In-situ measurements for temperature, pH dissolved oxygen, salinity, total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity were recorded using the appropriate meters. The samples were poured into appropriately labeled 2-litre plastic containers for physio-chemical analyses. Only water lily was identified in the pond. There was no diversity of Aquatic weed species in the pond. Continuous use of agrochemicals especially pesticides and herbicides around the pond could probably be responsible for this. ...
