Prevalence of hypertension among staff of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic

Abstract
This research aimed at assessing the prevalence of hypertension among the staff of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina. The result shows that 83% and 38% of the respondents have a history of hypertension in their family, and have 4– 7 people in the family respectively. The respondents are between 120mmhg/80mmhg– 129mmgh/80mmhg which means that they are normal, not hypertensive. The respondents are having BMI ranging from 18.5 to 24.9 which means there are normal BMI. The respondent does like salty food which might be included inside the soup and other related food items and they are consuming salty food sometimes. In essence, majority of the respondents do not add table salt during dining. The respondents add seasoning and spices sometimes, and also the respondents do engage in one or two physical activities, most of the respondents experience severe headaches. Based on the findings above the project therefore recommends the following the staff of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic should try and maintain healthy eating habits and reduce consumption of excess salt the institution management should find a channel to enlighten as well as sensitize the polytechnic community and precautions measures for preventing hypertension among their staff this research is limited to only staff of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, the future work should include the staff of other institutions (Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Federal College of Education Katsina, and Al– Qalam University Katsina) and polytechnic community as well.  ...
