Abstract
This research study sought to determine the influence of parent socioeconomic status (SES) on students’ academic achievement in secondary schools at Nassarawa L.G.A., Kano state. The target populations of this study were secondary schools, from public and private schools. Descriptive survey was adopted as the research design, simple random sampling as the sampling technique used with 50 respondents as the sample size of the study. Questionnaire as the instrumentation, face and content validity to find the validity of the instrument and descriptive analysis and percentages as the statistical analysis were used. Data presentation and analysis show a significant influence on parents'' educational level, significant influence on the parent''s income level, no influence on parent''s occupational status, significant influence on the family size and there is a good level of academic performance. The study found that Parent’s income level and family size has an influence on students'''' academic achievement. Finally, recommendations were given that parents should ensure that they always create time for their children despite their tight schedules, and also parents should always try hard to ensure that their children have all or almost all the textbooks and materials needed for their studies. ...
