Abstract
This project has a definite purpose of ensuring accuracy and preciseness in displaying exact speed readings based on how fast an engine or motor shaft is being rotated. It has being envisaged critically that the inability of analogue tachometer to display exact speed reading is being thwarted. Hence, to avert such entrenchment and inadequacy caused by the analogue tachometer has led to the recent development of a digital tachometer which enhances the preciseness of a numeric value that is undergoing such measurement.  This project is aimed at the design and construction of a“Contact-less Digital Tachometer” it consists of basically three essential components that are of maximum impact which enhance the workability of this project, which are microcontroller, hall effect sensor, and liquid crystal display. Measuring the Revolution per Minute (RPM) of a rotating shaft. Conventional tachometers require direct contact with the rotating object which may affect its Revolution per Minute (RPM) and thus affect the accuracy of the tachometer. When there is a rotating shaft or object, which is placed near the tachometer, the Hall Effect sensor will sense the rotation, and convert the rotation to pulses and send it to the input pin of the Programmable Interface Controller (PIC), microcontroller which will process the number of pulses it receives, and then display it on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) displays its result in Revolution Per Minute (RPM)....
