Abstract
Honey is a sweet, viscous food substance produced by bees and some related insects that have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, phytochemical and antioxidant use in surgical wounds, ulcers, bed sores administered orally and by rubbing on the surface of the wound infection. The present was aimed to isolate and identify bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Streptococcus pyogene) and subsequently determine the antimicrobial activity of honey obtained from two different locations in Aliero local Government Kebbi State, Nigeria on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Streptococcus pyrogens isolated from wound. The isolation and identification of the microorganisms from the wound were carried out. materials such Autoclave, Incubator, Petri dishes, test tubes, glass slides and reagents such as crystals violet, iodine, acetone, hydrogen peroxide and Kovac’s reagent. Media such as nutrient agar mannitol salt agar, muller hinton agar, are used to inoculate the samples. The isolate has gone through series of Gram stain of biochemical tests such as Catalase, Coagulase, Indole test where Staphylococcus aureus are gram positive organisms, cocci in shape, positive to Catalase, Coagulase, and also negative to Indole test. Escherichia coli are gram negative organisms, rod in shape and test negative for Catalase, and Coagulase, and are also positive for Indole test. Streptococcus pyogenes are gram-negative organisms, cocci in shape, negative to test Catalase and Coagulase and positive to Indole test. Agar well diffusion method was used to determine the antibacterial activity of the honey on the test microorganisms. The result revealed that the two honey samples have heavy antibacterial activities against the test organisms and zones of inhibition were obtained showing high antibacterial activity....
