Using validated stress assessment tools, we measured the level of perceived stress and identified major sources and triggers of stress specific to the work environment of nephrology nurses. The study examined the coping mechanisms employed by these nurses to manage job-related stressors. Additionally, the study explored the relationship between their level of job experience and their ability to effectively manage workplace stress, as well as the impact of organizational support and available resources on their stress management capabilities. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, consulting journals and books to provide a solid foundation for the research. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed among nephrology nurses in General Hospital, Ilorin, using random sampling techniques to collect the necessary data. We employed SPSS version for data analysis. The findings revealed a high level of perceived stress among nephrology nurses in General Hospital, Ilorin. The primary sources and triggers of stress within their work environment included unexpected events, a lack of control over important aspects of life, and overwhelming difficulties. Coping mechanisms commonly employed by these nurses included seeking to understand problems, identifying positive aspects of situations, adopting alternative perspectives, considering various problem-solving strategies, finding humor in challenges, and contemplating necessary lifestyle changes. However, our analysis did not indicate a significant relationship between job experience and the ability of nephrology nurses in General Hospital, Ilorin, to effectively manage workplace stress. Notably, organizational support and resource availability significantly impacted the stress management capabilities of these nurses. In light of these findings, I recommend organizing stress management training programs for nurses to enhance their coping skills and well-being in the workplace.
