The purpose of the study was to assess the level of awareness on chronic kidney disease among patients attending the Medical Outpatient Department of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to assess the awareness of risk factors that contribute to the development of chronic kidney disease among patients attending Medical Outpatient Department of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to identify the most common risk factors for CKD that patients attending MOPD in UITH are aware of. A total of 333 questionnaires were distributed among patients attending the medical outpatients department in University College Hospital, Ilorin, using random sampling technique to collect the data needed for the study and were analyzed using SPSS version 25. It also showed that 249(74.8%) of the patients know what the kidneys are, 36(10.8%) of the patients heard about chronic kidney disease through the media, 117(35.1%) of the patients strongly agreed and 126(37.8%) disagreed that joint pain can lead to chronic kidney disease. The common risk factors for chronic kidney disease revealed include diabetes, hypertension, herbal concoction, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Hypotheses testing shows that there is no significant relationship between a patient’s awareness of chronic kidney disease and the risk factors that contribute to the development of chronic kidney disease and also no significant relationship between the effect of age on the level of awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease among patients.
