Abstract
Being able to trust each other in healthcare is a requirement for a beneficial and long-lasting partnership. Bonding forged with trust requires mastery of both technical and social competencies for it to last continually. However, poor interpersonal relationships are a hindrance to effective teamwork in healthcare delivery. Therefore, this study is geared towards examining ways to reduce mistrust among health information managers to achieve teamwork in healthcare delivery. The instrument used to collect data for this study is a validated and reliable structured questionnaire, which was administered on 55 Health Information Managers in Health Record department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and hypothesis tested using chi-square tool and p0.05126 was obtained proving that mistrust significantly affects the achievement of teamwork among health information managers in healthcare delivery. The findings of the study revealed that the causes of mistrust among health information managers are jealousy, discrimination, lack of reliability, and lack of proper placement of staff etc. This lack of affects teamwork in that it breeds loss of commitment, lack of communication etc. Mistrust can be reduced among health information managers to achieve teamwork by admitting when you do not know something, admitting when you are wrong, listening with intent etc. Teamwork has been recognized as the indispensable ingredient of success whenever and wherever people have to come together to achieve their personal goals. Consequently, the study recommends that healthcare team members should be assigned to duties according to their area of specialization. ...
