This study investigated the causes and consequences of breached confidentiality of patient health records on HIMPs. Three research questions guided the descriptive survey research design utilized in the study. The population comprised 56 HIMPs from NAUTH, Nnewi, all of whom participated. A questionnaire collected data which simple percentages and chi-square tests analyzed. Results revealed breach causes including lack of licensed staff (89%), poor staff attitude (82%), unethical practices (68%), and no sanctions for defaulters (95%). All participants (100%) agreed breaches have consequences, including suspension (72%), license withdrawal (97%), demotion (89%) and litigation (91%). Promoting confidentiality involves employing licensed staff (89%), HIMP training (97%), sanctioning defaulters (82% ), ensuring ethical practices (100%), and proper staff attitude (91%). The hypothesis that breaches have HIMP consequences was supported. Recommendations include hospital management providing adequate materials to promote confidentiality through funding. In summary, the study established staff issues as confidentiality breach causes, outlined consequences for HIMPs, showed participant agreement on the existence of consequences, and suggested methods for promoting greater confidentiality. All participants pointed to consequences, with a majority highlighting employment of unlicensed staff, poor attitudes and lack of sanctions as key causes. With confidentiality critical for patient trust and care quality, addressing these causes through training, ethic enforcement, attitude adjustments and appropriate employment appears vital for HIMPs and healthcare organizations....Preview Download Preview +Other Health Information Management project topics and materials you might be interested in»Analysis of filing system and consequences of misfiling»Impact of health information management in healthcare delivery»Evaluation of the problems and constraints facing health record keeping and professionals»Assessment of challenges of health information management practice in General Hospital Ilorin, Kwara State»Analysis of filing system and consequences of misfiling patients health records in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara state»A study into causes of misfiling among health information management professionals in health records department - case study of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara state»Factors militating against effective documentation in health care delivery system in University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin City, Edo state»Evaluation of confidentiality of patient health records among hospital staff»Evaluation of patient appointment system - a case study of university of Ilorin teaching hospital»Effect of lack of health information computerization in the primary health care system»Impact of electronic medical records on patients waiting time in health care delivery system in Federal Medical Center, Asaba, Delta state»Causes and consequences of breach of confidentiality of patient health information in Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos state»Impact of health statistics in the health care delivery system at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State»Evaluation of the importance of health information management in primary health care»Knowledge and perception of health information management professionals on electronic coding for quality clinical data in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara state
