However, implementation faces challenges like inadequate funding, poor communication, and incomplete reporting. This study examined the availability, utilization and effectiveness of disease surveillance and notification services in Nigeria. Specific objectives included assessing training impacts, examining implementation challenges, and finding ways to improve services at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital. A descriptive survey design was used. The 5,000 hospital staff were sampled using Yamane''s formula to reach 98 healthcare workers. A pretested questionnaire measured perspectives. Descriptive statistics analyzed data. Findings show disease surveillance and notification systems are available and effectively utilized at the hospital for early disease outbreak detection. However, inadequate funding, poor coordination, and insufficient worker training on these systems are key challenges. Provision of adequate training is a major way to improve services. Recommendations include government-ensured training on disease surveillance and notification for healthcare workers. In summary, while disease surveillance and notification systems are available and utilized at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, there are funding, coordination, and training challenges affecting implementation.
