Abstract
Quackery in health information management refers to the dissemination of inaccurate, misleading, or unverified health information by individuals lacking proper qualifications. This phenomenon poses significant challenges to healthcare delivery in Nigerian hospitals, undermining patient safety, eroding trust, and compromising the quality of care. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and impact of health information management quackery on healthcare delivery at Iyi-enu Mission Hospital in Ogidi, investigate contributing factors, and explore strategies for prevention and mitigation. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population consisted of healthcare professionals at Iyi-enu Mission Hospital. A sample size of 121 respondents was determined using the Yaro Yamane formula. Data was collected through a well-structured questionnaire and analyzed using simple percentages and the chi-square test. The findings revealed that 59% of respondents believed quackery practices were prevalent in the healthcare sector. Additionally, 48% acknowledged that health information management quackery negatively impacted healthcare delivery quality. Insufficient education and training of healthcare professionals (31%) and limited public awareness (41%) were identified as contributing factors. Implementing strict regulations (38%), promoting evidence-based medicine (28%), and enhancing health literacy were proposed as mitigation strategies. The study recommends implementing stringent regulations, enhancing healthcare professionals’ education and training, launching public awareness campaigns, fostering collaborative efforts between professionals and the public, promoting evidence-based practices, and conducting further research with larger sample sizes across diverse healthcare settings....
