The descriptive Survey method was used for the study and stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample size of 160 that was used for the study. The instruments used for the collection of data were questionnaires. The questionnaire was structured and it contains 10 items. 160 questionnaires were distributed to the elderly patients under the study with a return rate of 160 (100%). Percentage, frequencies, tables, pie charts, histograms and bar charts were used for the presentation of data. The study revealed that respondents 160 (100%) had heard about the term“hypertension” but the majority of them 80 (50%) gave the definition as thinkers disease while 80 (50%) of the respondent defined hypertension correctly. The study also showed that 66 (46.3%) of the respondents said that hypertension is caused by thinking while the least number 10 (6.3%) gave the cause as hereditary. Also, 100 (62.5%) of the respondents did not know the preventive measures of hypertension while 60 (37.5%) of them knew the preventive measures. The study equally showed that the majority of the respondents 74 (46.3%) knew that stroke was one of the consequences of uncontrolled hypertension and not as a result of evil attacks. While 40(25%) of respondents saw stroke as a result of evil attack.
