Abstract
The aim of this project is to replace cement using marble powder as a binder in concrete and to determine its effect on the characteristics and strength of concrete. Quality tests such as specific gravity for fine, coarse and marble powder were 2.50, 2.5, and 2.63 respectively. Fine aggregate is graded as zone 1 of the IS383.1970. The aggregate impact value and crushing value were obtained to be 22.7%, and 19.05% respectively. The result of consistency shows that at 10%,6.5mm improvement compared to the control. For soundness at 10%, 1.0mm, for initial and final setting time at 10%, 134mins and 274mins compared to control. Slump test was improved by 10% compared to the control, respective heights are 297mm, 298mm, 298.2mm, 298.8mm and 298.8mm. water absorption test value was the compressive test desirable strength was obtained at 10%, 31.67N/mm2 compared to control28.33N/mm2 and at 40%, 13.33N/mm the split tensile strength for grade M25 had shown 10% improvement compared to control and at 40%(0%4.14,10%4.24and40%2.76N/mm2). Therefore, the finding of this project work shows that compressive strength and split tensile test of concrete increases with increasing days of curing and reduce in strength as the result of increasing the percentage of marble powder added to the mixture from 10% to 40% optimum strength was obtained at 10%replacement of cement with marble powder. ...
