This study examines the knowledge and attitude of health professionals at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria, regarding the confidentiality of patient health records. Objective: The primary objective of this research is to assess the level of knowledge and the attitudes of health professionals in ATBUTH toward patient health record confidentiality. This study also explores potential factors that may influence these aspects. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from a sample of health professionals working at ATBUTH. A structured questionnaire was administered to gather information on their knowledge and attitudes regarding patient health record confidentiality. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study found that a significant proportion of health professionals at ATBUTH demonstrated good knowledge of patient health record confidentiality principles. However, some revealed less favorable attitudes, with concerns about the adequacy of current confidentiality measures and potential breaches. Factors such as professional experience and training were associated with variations in knowledge and attitudes.
