Abstract
Neem seeds derived from the Neem tree (Azadirachta indica) are renowned for their multifaceted benefits and have been extensively used in traditional medicine, agriculture, and personal care products. The seeds contain Neem oil, which is rich in bioactive compounds such as azadirachta nimbin and nimbolide, known for their antimicrobial, antifungal and insecticidal properties. Neem oil is particularly valuable in the soap-making industry for its ability to produce a natural, moisturizing soap with therapeutic properties. The extraction and characterization of oil from Neem seeds for soap production was studied. The result obtained showed that in 500g of powdered Neem seeds 72ml of oil was extracted. The physiochemical properties of the Neem seeds oil are: the color of oil (Yellow), percentage yield (14.4%), Refractive index (0.98) specific gravity density (1.83g/cm3), weight of soap produced (31g) and the yield of soap (34.44%). Also, the chemical parameters of the oil analyzed are PH (6.80), fatty acid value, acid value, iodine value, peroxide value and saponification value, 0.48mgkoh/g, 38mgKOH/g, 198.95, 12.0mgKOH/g and 938.55mgKOH/g respectively. The result of this revealed that the Neem seed oil is of good quality for consumption and production of pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and other industrial products. It is therefore recommended that more research should be encouraged on the antioxidant activities, paint making, body creams and pesticides production on Neem seed oil....
