Abstract
This study examined the effectiveness of broadcast media programmes in the resolution of community conflicts in Nigeria using Delta Broadcast Service (DBS), Asaba as its point of reference. The objective of this study is to determine the level of involvement and participation of broadcast media programmes in the resolution of community conflicts. Survey research method was used for the study. The instrument used for this study was a questionnaire. The researcher administered 56 copies of the questionnaire to the respondents, only 50 were retrieved and used as the basis of analysis for this study. The researcher used the simple percentage method in the tabulation of results. Findings show that although DBS Asaba often suggest conflict resolution strategies to residents of Asaba, yet, there is no great level of participation of DBS Asaba in community conflict resolution however, Asaba residents accept DBS Asaba broadcast media programmes. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that the print and electronic media should be used for awareness raising as well as workshops and community outreaches. For the illiterate, radio talk shows and community outreaches in local languages should be intensified to combat incessant unnecessary community conflicts. The study is anchored on the Uses and Gratifications theory....
