Abstract
This study examines an evaluation of the implementation of the national policy on education (NPE) in Nigeria, issues and problems of implementation. To examine the extent to which educational achievements are in line with educational policies in Nigeria. To examine the factors or constraints that made the implementation of educational policies difficult. Simple random sampling technique was adopted for this study, giving each member of the population an opportunity of being selected as a member of the sample size. The population of the study comprises all staff of Lokoja Local Government Area, Kogi State. At the end of the exercise, two hundred and fifty (250) were selected as the sample size. Data for the study were collected through the use of questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage, which were used to evaluate the opinion of the respondents. The result of the data analysis revealed that educational achievements are in line with educational policies in Nigeria and that there are factors or constraints that made the implementation of educational policies difficult. The implications of poor implementation of educational policies for national development. It was also revealed that the second objective of the national policy on education, which is“a just and egalitarian society,” is also very important for the growth and development of Nigeria. That adequate funding of education, provision of adequate infrastructural facilities, fight institutional corruption, ensure adequate security in educational institutions, political officeholders should have positive political will towards implementation of educational policies, employment of more professional teachers, positive relationship between policy designers and policy implementer and political officeholders should have political will to continue with educational policies....
