Map revision is the process of improving and correcting the content of a map. This is done by updating the information on a map from time to time. The research work aimed at identifying and analyzing the recent changes of features and their spatial distribution of a section of Owerri North Local Government Area using GIS and the traditional ground method approach and to represent the information through mapping. The methodology employed is the planning stage, data acquisition, digitization/data conversion, GIS database design and creation, GIS analysis and result presentation. The primary data source involves the GPS positioning of various feature locations in the area of study which was obtained using a hand-held GPS receiver and the attributes of the features. The secondary data source includes a map of Owerri North, the Nigerian shape files obtained from OSGOF map and satellite imagery from Sas Planet which was used to download the georeferenced image of the study area. The location study area map was first created in ArcGIS using the OSGOF shapefiles and the boundary of the study area was made using polygon shapefile. A high-resolution georeferenced satellite image was downloaded using Sas Planet and the image was imported to ArcGIS and masked within the boundaries of the study area and the roads were digitized using polyline shapefile. The location data was compiled in Excel and imported to ArcGIS 10.4.1 as point shapefiles. The revised map was prepared and exported as an image showing the roads and the different landmarks.
