As global environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological imbalances intensify, green finance—comprising carbon finance, green credit, and green investment—emerges as a crucial strategy for promoting sustainable growth. This research aims to assess how these green financing mechanisms contribute to Nigeria''''s economic development while addressing environmental concerns. Employing an ex-post facto research design, the study utilizes time series data and adopts the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model for analysis. The research findings reveal that all three components of green finance—carbon finance, green credit, and green investment—significantly positively impact sustainable economic development. The Error Correction Model (ECM) indicates that approximately 68% of short-run disequilibria in economic development are corrected annually, highlighting the effectiveness of green financing in promoting long-term sustainability. The study concludes that integrating green finance into Nigeria''''s economic strategy is essential for fostering sustainable development. Recommendations include enhancing institutional capacity to merge environmental and economic policies, adopting green financing strategies such as green credit and investments, and improving energy consumption structures through financial markets. By treating environmental regulations as opportunities rather than obstacles, Nigeria can harness green finance to achieve sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.
